Antennas as Precise Sensors for GNSS Reference Stations and High-Performance PNT Applications on Earth and in Space

Satellite navigation is more and important in a plethora of very different application fields, ranging from bank transactions to shipping, autonomous driving aerial applications, such as commercial avionics well unmanned vehicles (UAVs). In precise positioning, navigation, timing (PNT) reference stations stations, it characterize all errors present the system order account possibly for them or calibrate out. Antennas play an role this respect: they are indeed “sensor” that capture signal space global satellite systems (GNSS) thereby strongly contribute overall achievable performance. This paper reviews currently available antenna technologies, targeting specifically GNSS antennas and, after introducing performance indicators, summarizes Finally, open research issues identified, possible approaches solve discussed.
